Googong High School is a comprehensive high school located in the rapidly growing suburb of Googong, 20 minutes from Canberra. Googong High School proudly serves the communities of Googong, Burra, Royalla, Williamsdale and Michelago as well as the hamlets and rural properties between. Googong High School is part of the Queanbeyan network of schools and benefits from strong ties with local schools in the region.
Googong High School will open in 2027 for years 7 and 8 and will continue to grow alongside the town. The school boasts state of the art facilities as well as benefitting from direct access to the many new facilities and resources in the Googong township.
We strongly believe in delivering a school environment that best meets the needs of all of our students. This means delivering an education experience that helps students succeed whilst at school but prepares them for a rapidly changing world. Our focus is not just on exams but on preparing students to be successful on the paths they take in life. To do this, Googong High School's curriculum is built on the mantra "a school built on Learning Sciences." We ensure that everything we do, from our subject design to how we teach classes, is grounded in practice that has been proven to work in contemporary settings. In some ways, this leads us to a curriculum design that looks very different to traditional schools. In other ways, we continue to uphold those teaching methos that have been proven to work.
We know that learning can happen anywhere. We are committed to forming strong relationships with universities, industry and community organisatins to enrich the learning that happens at Googong High School. We run specific community-oriented subjects in year 7 and 8 to build community and civic pride amongst our students. As we grow, we will ensure that these partnerships also provide students meaningful and real transitions into the career pathways they desire. Our work is supported by a community that is passionate and involved in their school, led by a strong establishment working party which will be the basis of our foundation P&C in 2027.
